Barbados has elected the country’s first-ever president on Oct. 12, 2021, as it prepares to become a republic, removing British Queen Elizabeth II as head of state. Dame Sandra Mason, 72, is set to be sworn in on Nov. 30, which will mark the country’s 55th anniversary of independence from Britain.
