Which government is estimated to own more than half of the world’s surveillance cameras?
Industry researcher IHS Markit estimates that more than half of the world’s nearly one billion surveillance cameras are in China. The New York Times analysis found that the police strategically chose locations, such as residential buildings, karaoke lounges, and hotels to maximize the amount of data their facial recognition cameras could collect.
