The world governing body for swimming (FINA) prohibits transgender women from competing internationally unless what?
Transgender women will not be allowed to compete in international competitions unless they have begun medical treatments to suppress testosterone production before puberty or by age 12, the international swimming federation FINA announced on June 19, 2022. In March, Lia Thomas became the first transgender woman to win an NCAA swimming championship. The new rule means she can’t qualify for the US Olympic team in 2024.
