Elon Musk is buying Twitter. For how much?
In a deal valued at $44 billion, Twitter announced on Apr. 25, 2022, that it had entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Elon Musk. Musk reported a sale of 9.6 million shares of Tesla stock worth roughly $8.5 billion in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Apr. 28 and Apr. 29 – most likely to help fund his purchase of the social platform. The transaction would result in Twitter becoming a privately owned company. On May 13, 2022, Musk tweeted, “Twitter deal temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts represent less than 5% of users,” but that he’s “still committed to acquisition.”
