The 14th Dr. Who is for the first time what?
The 29-year-old star of Netflix’s hit “Sex Education,” Ncuti Gatwa, born in Rwanda, will become the first Black actor to play the lead role in the BBC’s “Doctor Who.” He will be taking over from Jodie Whittaker, the first woman in the role, as the 14th incarnation of the Time Lord in Oct. 2022, the BBC announced on May 8, 2022. It’s worth mentioning that Jo Martin appeared as an unnumbered incarnation of The Doctor in three episodes in 2020 and 2021, making her the first non-white person to play the role. Doctor Who famously regenerates, allowing different actors to play the role since the series was first broadcast in 1963.
