Which tech giant owns part of OpenAI?
With Microsoft’s investment package of $1 billion in 2019, OpenAI moved from non-profit to “>capped”> for-profit (with a profit cap set to 100X). A Semafor report published on Jan. 10, 2023, revealed Microsoft’s plan to invest an additional $10 billion in return for owning a 49 percent stake in OpenAI, which values the company at $29 billion. Other investors would get another 49 percent, and OpenAI’s non-profit parent company would own 2 percent.
